Our Story
Tanzania New Zealand Association Incorporated (TANZA) is a community of Tanzanians who live and work in New Zealand and call Aotearoa their home. TANZA is a New Zealand registered organisation.
Before the inception of TANZA, the Tanzanian community used to meet during the Tanzania independence day, new year celebrations and other holidays to eat, connect & celebrate together as a family.
On 1st January 2017 during the new year celebration in Te Awamutu, some seniors met to discuss the formation of the Tanzanian community organisation. Few volunteers came forward to discuss the name of the community and draft the constitution.
In 2018 TANZA elected the first leadership team for the 2018-2020 term. The executive were: Dr Fred Musika (President), Kate Msiska (Secretary) and Segunda Lesilwa (Treasurer), and three leadership members: Peter Mwelwa, Asya Mohamed, and Isaya Mpangaji. The TANZA community is so grateful for their contributions in laying the groundwork for the Tanzanian Community, including registering TANZA as a society on the 17th April 2019, opening the Bank account and organising various community engagement activities.
TANZA strives to promote joint action and cooperation among members and create a forum for articulating social, cultural, technological, and economic issues that promote the development of its members.

TANZA's goal is to assist new members to settle in and participate in the community’s social and promotes awareness and understanding of members’ issues to the government, institution, and the public of New Zealand.
TANZA membership is open to persons from Tanzania living in New Zealand or other persons with vested interests in the affairs of both Tanzanians living in New Zealand and Tanzania.
